Scope note
In archaeology, geology, and related disciplines, sites having features or characteristics that are used to define, or are paradigmatic of, a culture, stratigraphic level, or other pertinent feature or characteristic. For example, in archaeology, a type site could contain artifacts in an assemblage that are typical of that culture. The type site is often the eponym for the culture or feature, that is, the site after which the culture or feature is named.
